Minerals Commission Deepens Decentralization with Commissioning of New Damang District Office

In a major stride toward strengthening regulatory oversight and bringing administrative services closer to mining communities, the Ghana Minerals Commission has officially commissioned its ultra-modern District Office in Damang, located in the Western Region.

The commissioning forms part of a nationwide infrastructural expansion blueprint by the Commission to enhance its regulatory footprint, decentralize operations, and ensure efficient monitoring of both large-scale and small-scale mining activities across mineral-rich zones in Ghana.

For years, the management of mineral rights, compliance checks, and community relations in and around Damang heavily relied on distant regional hubs. The establishment of the new Damang District Office eliminates these logistical barriers, providing a permanent, well-equipped operational base.

The facility is expected to Streamline Administrative Services, Fast-track local mining queries, decentralized application processes, and stakeholder engagements.
Intensify oversight on environmental protection, health and safety standards, and operational transparency.

Foster Local Collaboration: Serve as a direct liaison point between mining companies, mine support service providers, traditional authorities, and host communities.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, stakeholders and officials underscored the critical timing of the new office. Given Damang’s prominent status in Ghana’s rich mining landscape, marked by major large-scale operations and active local mining participation having a permanent regulatory presence ensures that mining practices remain sustainable and mutually beneficial to both investors and the state.
