Ghana and Russia Sign Historic Visa Waiver Agreement During Foreign Minister’s Official Visit to Moscow

MOSCOW — Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs has commenced a three-day official visit to Russia, highlighted by the signing of a landmark Visa Waiver Agreement for holders of Diplomatic and Service Passports.

The agreement marks the first visa waiver between the two nations since they established formal diplomatic ties in 1958. During bilateral talks with Russian Foreign Minister H.E. Sergey Lavrov, both sides committed to continuing negotiations for enhanced travel privileges across all categories to bolster bilateral trade, investments, and people-to-people exchanges.

The discussions also touched on multilateral cooperation, with the Ghanaian Foreign Minister conveying profound appreciation to Russia for supporting and voting for the Ghana-led UN resolution recognizing the transatlantic enslavement and racialised chattel as the gravest crime against humanity.

The three-day official visit aims to map out broader avenues of strategic cooperation between Ghana and Russia.
