These regional assessments are an important part of the Ministry of Health’s efforts to develop a National Roadmap for Reducing Maternal Mortality in Ghana—a roadmap built on evidence, local realities and the voices of those working at the frontline of maternal healthcare.
Deputy Minister for Health, Hon. Dr. Grace Ayensu-Danquah, has commenced a two-day official visit to the Ashanti Region as part of Phase Three of the Regional Ecosystem Assessment Visits under the Maternal Mortality Action and Response Programme (MMARP).
The discussions are helping to identify critical gaps in maternal health service delivery, referral pathways, emergency obstetric care, community-level barriers and stakeholder coordination, while strengthening collective commitment towards saving the lives of mothers.
Maternal mortality is more than a health statistic; it is a reflection of the strength, responsiveness and effectiveness of the health system. Every mother lost to a preventable cause represents a family, a community and a future impacted by an avoidable tragedy.
The goal is clear: fewer preventable maternal deaths and a safer pregnancy and childbirth experience for every woman, regardless of where she lives.
Through stronger collaboration, timely referrals, improved emergency response and sustained investment in maternal and primary healthcare, Ghana can make significant progress in protecting the lives of mothers.
Every mother matters. Every life counts. Together, the fight against preventable maternal deaths must be intensified.
