The Deputy Minister for Health, Hon. Grace Ayensu-Danquah, has paid a working visit to the Centre for Plant Medicine Research (CPMR) to gain first-hand insight into its operations and contribution to research, innovation and healthcare delivery in Ghana.

During the visit, the Deputy Minister toured key units of the facility, including the Microbiology Laboratory, Haematology and Biochemistry rooms, the Drugs Analysis Office, the Pharmaceutics and Quality Control Laboratory, and the Production Unit.

Across the various sections, she received briefings on ongoing research and laboratory activities — from the analysis and testing of plant-based medicines to quality control processes and the production of herbal medicinal products.

Hon. Ayensu-Danquah also engaged with researchers and technical staff, commending them for their dedication to advancing research and promoting locally produced, safe and effective plant-based medicines.

She underscored the critical role of scientific research, quality assurance and innovation in strengthening Ghana’s health system, and called for sustained efforts to ensure plant-based medicines meet the required standards of safety, quality and efficacy.
